What The People’s Editor Does

The People's Editor is a Black woman owned Research and Writing Consulting firm that offers Dissertation Coaching, Consulting, and Editing services and programs for Black doctoral students.

We specialize in helping Black doctoral students and doctoral students from marginalized backgrounds in humanities and social science disciplines successfully navigate the systemic barriers within the doctoral and dissertation process and become Doctor!

Programs

  • Through individualized weekly or biweekly coaching, participants receive support through the dissertation proposal stage through completion of their dissertation defense. Support includes dissertation chapter review and in-depth coaching and feedback, assistance with dissertation and writing planning and management, writing motivation, brainstorming, Q&A or advice.

  • Designed specifically for Black women, the group Dissertation Coaching program is designed for participants to complete their dissertations within 12 months. The program includes intensive dissertation coaching sessions, mentoring from other Black women, writing coaching and motivation, and dissertation strategy and planning support.

  • We offer two levels of dissertation and thesis editing Tier1: Final dissertation editing and Tier 2: Dissertation proposal editing.

    Tier 1: Final dissertation editing includes dissertation work that has received final approval from the client’s committee and is in preparation for final submission to the graduate school or Proquest.

    Tier 2: Dissertation proposal editing includes any dissertation project prior to final approval by the dissertation committee. Services include: Editing for grammar, syntax, punctuation, editing for flow, conciseness, and cohesiveness, providing feedback to the overall argument within the document,

Founder & CEO

Megan Covington, Ph.D. (She/her) is the Founder and CEO at the People’s Editor. Megan created The People’s Editor in 2019 to address issues in the ways the positionality of editors interfered with the experiences of people of color in higher education and the ways their stories were told. Megan’s goal is to deconstruct systemic issues that limit access for people of color in higher education and other professional contexts by providing affordable, high-quality editorial services. Megan received her PhD in Higher Education from Indiana University.
